You all have done a good job identifying the tension between contextualization and syncretism. In Chapter 10 Dr Flemming helps us struggle with our concern over cultural accommodation and syncretistic compromise. He suggests at least four criteria can guide us and help spare us from such compromises. (His message in the short video below fits well with one of those four criteria. Can you figure out which one?)
Even though Chapter 10 (the last chapter in his book Contextualization in the New Testament) is a bit shorter, I want us to spend three assignments focusing on the content.
